No Motivation? Don’t let that stand in your way!

I read a tweet by Michelle Bridges the other day she wrote  ”so you’re not motivated to exercise? So what nor am I half the time, so just shut up, put up and get on with it.”

MotivationRequired

Maybe I need to get tougher on my Curves ladies.  You know she is right. There are many things in life we can choose to take or leave but if we want to be healthy and make the most of the time we have on this earth…exercise is not in the options category. Yet we try  so hard to convince ourselves it is.

  • when the kids go to school I will have time for me
  • when I have more work I will be able to afford the
  • when I am working less will have more time
  • when I move from here to there it will be a little easier
  • when I am motivated I will do it

WHEN WILL WE STOP KIDDING OURSELVES

If you are looking for he perfect time to start looking after yourself you will be forever encountering the WHEN problem.  However if you resolve to do it anyway you will discover the solution.

I read a book many years ago called ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’. The poor dad had all the excuses under the sun but the rich dad figured out a way to get what he wanted.  The one thing I have always hung onto from that is if you want to succeed you have to stop saying  I CAN’T  and start asking HOW CAN I?

So in 2113 when it comes to exercise and eating right I encourage you to DO IT ANYWAY  let anything stand in your way

New Year Resolutions….Do they work?

So many people I have spoken to over the last few weeks seem reluctant at least and almost afraid to make a new year resolution as they have been disillusioned with their efforts to put their money where their mouth is in the past.
The secrete to setting goals or resolutions or what ever else you might call them is to be SMART about it.
S – Specific. Specific goals are clearly defined about what you want to accomplish. As an example, losing 60 pounds (30 kg) in 6 months is specific.
M – Measurable. Measurable goals are meaningful goals because they allow you to measure your progress. Weighing weekly, measuring monthly, and going to Curves four times a week are criteria you can measure.
A - Actionable. A goal has to be something you can take action on. Signing up for Curves Complete to achieve your weight loss goals is taking action!
R – Realistic. Realistic goals are goals that can be reasonably achieved. They are challenging, but not insurmountable.
T – Timely. When setting goals, it’s important to set a time frame to meet your goal in order to establish a sense of urgency. Without establishing a time frame, you may delay getting started.

Also bear in mind that success in life depends on balance.  So consider making SMART goals for all the major areas of your life this year…ie family, work, health, spiritual….etc.  Most importantly write them down, tell someone who will help you stay accountable,  review your progress regularly and adjust your goal or your action plan as necessary but don’t give up…keep moving forward.

Don’t make excuses make time

This isn’t called the silly season for nothing. Everyone is busy winding up work and studies for the year, planning for next year and getting caught up in the rat race of purchasing the perfect pressent for everyone….then there is the Christmas feast to cater for. In all this maddness it is easy to lose sight of your goals.  Christmas comes and goes in a flash but more often than not the extra calories can hang about on our hips and thighs for much longer.  Planning when and how you will fit your exercise in over the holiday season is essential to ensure you do not let good habits slide.

Here’s a tip.
When you go outside to get your newspaper in the morning, take a quick
5-minute power walk.  It’s a good way tonewspaper
get in a few extra steps.

Today is the tomorrow you created yesterday

I read this quote somewhere a few years ago and I have lived with this thought in mind every day since.  Every choice you make today will have an impact on what and who you become tomorrow.  Being healthy is a choice by choice day by day journey. If the majority of your choices are healthy then you will become that healthly, active, vibrant person you long to be.

Choices that take us on the journey of self betterment are nearly always challenging. So my challenge to you is when you are presented with a choice that impacts on your health….make the harder choice.
